Millennial Musings — Features I wish Quidd had

So I teased that I had a little more to say about Quidd in my post last month and since then a lot has been happening in the app. I have tried and failed to be verified five times, contacted support who still have not got it fixed and we finally have wish lists. On the other hand, none of my wishes has found anyone willing to sell, we still don’t have minting and drops of new items has been drastically reduced (probably due to all the licences that we keep losing!). So no idea how much longer that is going to take (especially as everything else is on pause till it happens). Once developers have finally delivered that feature they need a new list to work on so I am going to put on my imaginary product owner hat and decide what they should work on from a user-centred development style!

1. Filters

The market is congested with a lot of overpriced items from channels and sets that I don’t want and have very little value to me. To get me (and others) buying again Quidd needs to make it easier to find the things that we want to buy and to find the bargains hidden in the app. As a result, we need more and better filters.

Also, why can’t I search for my favourite channels? I have to select them one at a time, some being in the popular section some in the alphabetical section. That seems silly. I care more about the channels that are my favourite than I care about what the community is finding popular!

Next, I am often looking for needs in scream queens let me make that a saved filter so that I can quickly return to It. I don’t need to remake the filter every time I want to look to buy something!

To start with we need AND / OR and NOT filtering. If I want to see items that are an award and mintable I should be able to do that. If I want to see all CE that is not Horrors, rather than clicking every other channel let me tag Horrors twice and make it NOT on the filter. This would be even better with more options, I have one card from completing a channel all first edition, It would be so useful to have a First edition not owned combined with a AND channel name. Especially as the ‘need it’ filter is useless as I own a second edition of the card.

Talking about additional search terms, why can’t we have a lower than mine filter? That would be useful for channels I am trying to rank in. I also wish there was a way to search by set name. I am only interested in a few “favourite” sets on a channel. Let me search for them rather than seeing all the other stuff in the channel that I am not In any way interested in! Add these two together with an AND search and you can rank for a specific set. We could go a step further again and now the top 9 checklists are constant, why not have a filter for active checklist sets AND lower than mine, so that you can chase these awards more easily.

Let me clear individual sections of the filters rather than just the whole thing. The brand filter has a couple of hundred channels on it now. After I have made a search I either need to go through and uncheck them all or lose the whole filter. Give each filter a remove button in the top right, it can’t be more than a few lines of code and would make it so much easier for the users.

Why can’t I get an alert when the market changes? If I set up a filter that has no results or the results currently are too high let me set up an alert to let me know when that changes. Rather than having to wish for each card.

Finally, now that there are SO many cards listed at 10 cents we need a secondary sort. Low to high just doesn’t cut it on its own, we need something like low to high then sort by lowest CC (Or print number or by channel or anything else we care about) to make sense of all the listings at the same price.

2. Tagging

It would be so useful when browsing our albums that we could tag cards we need, and even sort those cards into different colour coordinated lists. I could have one set of tagged cards that I need first editions of, another for lows I am looking for, a third list for cards I want and don’t care about the edition. The real power of these tags is when they can be linked into wishes and filters so that I can more easily find what I want and not take up the finite number of slots and when a wish is fulfilled I have a place to pick the next one to wish for. Why not even let us put it on our profile? Then people can see non wish for cards that people who are spending money are still looking for.

On the flip side let me tag cards to get rid of that I no longer want in my collection. I am not allowed to list them all at once so why can’t it be made easy to find the next ones I want to get rid of.

3. Buying

Wishing is a failure. People are posting way too many spam offers that are not ever going to be sold for. People are posting silly offers for cards that they have to make them appear more valuable. I am even getting alerts that make no sense. I got an alert for a 1st edition ‘ship a she’ for $150 when my wish is for any edition under $10. I am not going to pay $140 more! Wishes don’t work. Let’s go to the original idea posted on the discord buy offers. Let sellers get the instant gratification that people get when buying and remove all the spam via taking the money in escrow while it’s waiting to be fulfilled.

Let me post offers to people selling. If there are multiple on the market let me try and bid on the lower asking for a better price and maybe find a compromise.

Price history is not helpful in its current form due to two reasons, one shines are included that would sell for more and chase are not acknowledged. This leads to sellers thinking they can list higher but as it’s not shiny and it’s not a chase it’s just going to sit on the market, which is not helpful for anyone.

Finally, why can we still not search for a specific number of a card? If I am looking at the #2 its value is different if it’s in a dead account vs if it’s in the hands of the person I am trying to overtake on the leaderboard. I need to know this before I negotiate with someone, I might even be willing to pay more for it!

4. Selling

We need to have the ability to bundle groups of items together in one post. I am not talking about a pseudo trading, I am talking about all the base cards we have multiples of that are not work 10 cents. This way we can bundle a whole set of base for a dollar and then sell it in one go, fair for the seller and the buyer. It can also bring back hoarding! I collected a creator card en mass. Would I pay 10 cents for a sing 1 million CC? No. Would I pay 10 cents for 10? Probably. My hoard can grow and people can get rid of them, win-win!

We also need to have more realistic buy and sell prices. We shouldn’t be able to list a base card for 10,000 and we shouldn’t be able to list a 1cc for 10 cents. This is just asking for fat-finger errors and people giving up on their accounts. Why not have the max listing price be double the highest past sale and the minimum based on the lowest past sale. Another way to do it would be based on CC and print number but that didn’t work very well for coin estimation so might be best to keep it simple for the time being.

Why can’t we also filter “wishes”? I get to see a selection of items that people want, but they are often singles that I want to keep. Why can’t I filter the list to only show channels that I do not care about or to only show doubles that I don’t mind selling? In addition, why not let us filter to only buyers that are online now. That way we can quickly sell, they can quickly get the card they want and it’s not taking up one of our precious selling slots!

Finally, some people still like to do hour / 24-hour listings, we were promised that we would get a relist all button. It still has not appeared, hopefully, one day!

5. Liquidity

The number one problem on the app right now is liquidity. If cards are moving back and forth that’s great you have money to buy the ones you want via getting rid of the ones you don’t. The issue is everyone is trying to get to $100 and is holding the cash, stopping it from flowing around the economy. It all depends on Quidds confidence, if they were confident and want the economy to start moving again they could reduce the hoarding by reducing the limit to say $10.

Quidd has also ruined another one of their great liquidity providers, coin chases, by going cash only. They have tried to give award cards instead but, when they struggle to sell for 10 cents after the event no one is chasing the next time! They either need to go back to coins having a use (and that is not happening) or put up real cash for the events (but will that bite into venture funds?). Else they are going to need to come up with another mechanism to get the market flowing again.

6. Collecting

Finally Collecting, is the main core of the app that hasn’t seen any love or attention since I left the app many years ago. I still can’t add all my cards to their correct album with one button press, I have to do it one card at a time. As a result, I just ignore this feature entirely, which is a shame. I still can’t reorder my albums so that they are in my favourite order. I still can’t showcase my completed albums on my profile. The list goes on and on! But most of all I am not rewarded for the collection that I have amassed, and that is sad. Gallery season one is the first attempt at this where the number one user gets a share of the tax, but is it fair to only reward one person? What about the old channels that we have 100% completed and never got a single reward card as they were not around. Quidd no longer holds the licence for these so we can’t expect a golden scream queens card for a 100% channel completion, but why not an exclusive channel on discord or a monthly cash/coin payout shared by everyone who is holding 100% of the channel based on the tax generated on the channel. In the same way as Royal is doing with holding NFT’s.
